From BBQ to Braai

I'm super excited to attend "From BBQ to Braai," one of the tastiest charitable events I have ever been invited to. The event will feature traditional South African BBQ alongside an exceptional collection of South Africa's finest wines. Tickets are just $20 for unlimited food and wine and ALL proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the New Orleans Habitat for Humanity.

The event is the first stop on the "From BBQ to Braai" tour which sets out to promote a better understanding of South African culture through wine, food, and music. The tour is sponsored by Wines of South Africa, the international marketing body of the South African wine industry.

The event will take place on Saturday, February 22nd, from 2pm-5pm at the Falstaff Beer Garden. Buy your tickets HERE!

Exciting News!

I have very exciting news to share with all of you! After 3 successful DIY segments on The 504, I will now be their official DIY expert & regular guest on the show! That means even more crafting and hanging out with the always lovely Sheba Turk – plus free publicity for Back Bayou Vintage, so I’m pretty stoked! To kick off my reign as “Miss DIY,” I was featured in an entire episode of The 504- not just the usual 6 minute segment, the whole 30 minute show! Watch the episode here and follow my DIY blog: BackBayouVintage.com!

New Beignets on the Block!

Morning Call has reopened their doors in Mid City! Now you don't have to drive all the way to Metairie to get your hands on their deliciously doughy beignets. Situated in the heart on City Park in the Old Casino building, the restaurant maintains its old world charm, a good reminder that it was the first beignet cafe in New Orleans.

Though I may get some criticism for saying this, I must admit I like their beignets better than Cafe du Monde. However, I can't say the same thing about their cafe au lait, which is good, but not as great as CDM's.

They also are open 24/7, have a menu full of tasty local cuisine (including aligator sausage), and they have soft serve! Plus, you can rent out the venue for private events (which would be awesome for a wedding). I just went to a lovely masquerade ball there last week. Check out my Back Bayou Vintage blog post to see more pics of the venue and the event!

Bon Appetit!

New Blog!

Hello All!

After a year of writing for the Hungry Heretic I decided to pursue my real dream this past January, and finally open my vintage clothing store, Back Bayou Vintage on Etsy.com. Back Bayou Vintage LLC is an elegant collection of vintage and handmade goods, created, restored, and acquired in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana.

After 5 month of hard work my store is finally taking off and it's time to launch my fashion/style/ design blog: backbayouvintage.wordpress.com!

I cannot express how humbled I am by the following the Hungry Heretic has received and I am very happy to continue providing entertainment to my readers. It may be a different topic, but it is still the same fun, easy-going writing style, colorful photos, and New Orleans tidbits.

Thank you so much for your continued love and support, I hope you enjoy the new direction my writing is going in. Please stay in touch, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Catch you on the flip side,

Jenny
